How to Install a Playstation Mod Chip

Click on the appropriate model of Playstation you own on the side after reading the disclaimer at the bottom of the page.
Caution: Soldering experience is necessary in order to successfully install this chip. Please, do not try to install a mod chip for your first electronics experiment.Excessive heat can damage both chip and circuit board. Please take care not to cause electrostatic damage to the chip. Have a friend who is good at component level circuit board repair/soldering or a VCR/electronics repair shop do the install if you feel uncomfortable! If you don't trust anyone then get some blank board from Radio Shaft or take an old circuit board and assemble/solder some parts and practice, practice, practice. Putting together some kits that require soldering wouldn't be a bad idea either. Just imagine.. get good and you can charge your friends for installs.
Tools and Hardware Needed Before You Start
  Electrical Tape
A #1 Phillips Screwdriver and a couple small ones.
Fine Gauge Rosin-Core Solder - The electrical type. Don't use stained glass rosinless solder and expect it to work.
At least 42" of #30 AWG Insulated Wire
  Wire Strippers/Cutters
Low-Wattage Soldering Iron (10-20W Max.) NOTE: The better you are with an iron, the higher the wattage you can use. In other words the faster you can get on and off the board the better. If you use too high of a wattage and you are too slow you WILL cause traces to pull away from the board and/or DAMAGE chips. Especially on the 75XX model.
Attach wires to pins 1, 5, 6, and 8 for 10XX, 55XX, and 70XX series.
Attach wires to pins 1, 4, 6, 7, and 8 for 75XX series.
